Arabic is the official language in 26 countries\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With more than 300 million speakers worldwide, it is the official language of 26 countries.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cudoo.com\/blog\/arabic-who-speaks-it-and-where\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arabic is spoken in many countries<\/a>, and it&#8217;s also one of the 6 official languages of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>The UN declared December 18th as Arabic National Day when the language was officially approved in 2010.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2. it is at least 1,500 years old<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Classical Arabic originated in the sixth century, but earlier versions of the language existed, including the Safaitic dialect, an old dialect used by the pre-Islamic nomadic inhabitants of the Syro-Arabian desert.\u00a0Some of its inscriptions date back to the first century!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. <strong>There are three &#8220;types&#8221; of Arabic (and then some, you might argue)<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.hubspot.net\/hubfs\/2133673\/shutterstock_139516733.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_139516733.jpg\" width=\"724\" height=\"383\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cudoo.com\/products\/languages\/arabic\/learn-arabic-online-classical-level-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Classical Arabic <\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(the form of\u00a0Arabic\u00a0in which the Quran is written)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Classical Arabic, otherwise known as Qu&#8217;ranic, dates back to the literary texts from Umayyad and Abbasid times; its the language of the Quran (the holy book of Islam).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cudoo.com\/products\/languages\/arabic-starter-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modern Standard Arabic\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>(MSA &#8211; used as a global, universal standard)<\/p>\n<p>MSA is the Arabic of newspapers, novels, and textbooks. This literary variety is used in writing and in most formal speech and is pretty similar to Classical Arabic.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cudoo.com\/?s=Arabic+&amp;post_type=product&amp;type_aws=true&amp;id=1&amp;filter=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colloquial Arabic\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>(varies according to the region and country)<\/p>\n<p>Imagine having people in 26 countries with different geographical borders, cultures, cities, and groups, all speaking the same language&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The national or regional varieties of spoken Arabic differ\u00a0significantly\u00a0from Modern Standard Arabic and Classical Arabic, as well as from each other!<\/p>\n<p>For example, Syrians, Palestinians, Saudi Arabians or Egyptians can communicate with each other easily, however, they would have more difficulty communicating with Moroccans or Algerians, with its greater influence from French.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. the words are written from right to left; numbers are written from left to right.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.hubspot.net\/hubfs\/2133673\/Arabic%20literature%20(1)-1.jpg\" alt=\"Arabic literature (1)-1.jpg\" width=\"724\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This can be confusing if you are not a native speaker, meaning you might well end up in the right place at the wrong time, on a wrong day.
