18 Sep Oriya Online Course – Level 1
Oriya, or Odia, is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the Indian state of Odisha (Orissa) by about 40 million people on the east coast of India. Oriya is the official language of Odisha State, with strong influences from the neighboring Bengali and Assamese languages.
Developed originally from the Bengali script, its writing stands out due to its rounded, curling letters, said to be crafted from years of writing on palm leaves with a pointed stylus.
The people of Odisha are known for their rich cultural heritage, with a mix of the Jagannath cult, the Vaishnav cult, and Buddhism and Sivayat cult. The state stands in a coastal corridor between the cultures of the Aryans and Dravidians, and their cosmopolitan language reflects their cultural richness!
