Cebuano (also referred to as ‘Bisaya’), is the spoken language of Cebuano people, on the island of Cebu, in the Philippines. It is heavily influenced by the Spanish and Mexican culture from the Spanish Colonists, and as a result, Cebuano contains many words of Spanish and Mexican origin. Hence if either one of them is your first language, you’ll find Cebuano to be relatively easy to learn. Apart from Spanish, Cebuano also includes some loan words from Sanskrit and Arabic.
The original script of the language died out in the 17th century and has been replaced by Latin alphabets. It is the second-largest spoken language by the people, despite not being taught in schools and universities.
