Luganda is one of the main languages of Uganda, after English and Swahili, and the native language of the people in the Buganda region. It developed over the centuries as a spoken language through the oral traditions of the clans and was only written down in the 19th Century.
This literally means it is a language made for communication! The passing on of their customs and culture through their strong oral history has preserved many of their traditions. Whether visiting or working in Uganda, learning Luganda is a sure sign of interest in the people, especially in the Buganda region.
Did you know? On a visit to the country in the 1940s, the late Winston Churchill was so captivated by its beauty that he called it the “Pearl of Africa”, and it’s still known as that today!

Overall, I can say that I enjoyed the course. It gives a good starting point to learn Luganda in a simplyfied and playful way. However, many of the lessons (e.g. regarding countries and specific kitchen equipment) are not very useful at the very beginning when learning a completely new language. It would have been more appropriate to include phrases like: My name is ... or I'm ... years old, etc. So things you would use on a day to day basis when getting to Uganda.
