What is Tamazight?

The Amazigh or Berber dialect used in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains is known as Tamazight. For the past 2000 years, the native inhabitants of Morocco have been speaking a Berber/Amazigh dialect. Tamazight, Tashelhit, and Tarifit are the three primary Amazigh dialects spoken in Morocco.

Despite being on a continuum and generally being regarded as mutually intelligible, Amazigh dialects can differ from place to place. Tamazight is sometimes known as Middle Atlas Tamazight, Central Atlas Tamazight, or Central Moroccan Tamazight.

It Is Valuable to Learn Berber Tamazight?

Although many Moroccans speak Moroccan Arabic, understanding Tamazight is extremely useful in Central Morocco.

The cities of Meknès, Khemissett, Taza, Sefrou, Ifrane, Azrou, Beni Mellal, Khenifra, Azilal, Midelt, Imilchil, Rich, Errachidia, Goulmima, Merzouga, Tineghir, Tinjedad, Skoura, Boulmane-Dadès, and all the locations in between are included in the Tamazight-speaking region.

You should learn Tamazight if you want to stay in any of these cities for an extended time.
