Thanks to websites and apps such as Instagram, you can now get paid to travel. So many influencers have hundreds of thousands of followers. From Instagram’s Erin Rose with 14k followers to Youtube’s Karl Watson with his 75k followers, millennials (1977-1995) and Gen Z (1996-present) are actively working towards becoming better traveled and cultured.

Let’s take a look at what Travel Agent Central says were the five most popular destinations in 2017 for Millenials and Gen Z.

1. United States of America

New York City alone is home to 100 different museums, perhaps what draws these younger crowds in is the ease of getting elsewhere in the country. The United States is rich in history and rich in culture as it’s a melting pot of so many different races, religions, and types of people. The United States is also home to Hollywood, which is major for many who are looking to take that leap into film or music.

2. Spain

Obviously, Spain has some amazing beaches. Spain has so much more to offer though! Gen Z travelers are more inclined to go on a vacation for the experiences, such as the zipline from Spain to Portugal. In fact, 74% of travelers are willing to spend their money on travel experiences vs. clothes and such, according to Expedia.

3. France

If you want to talk about Instagram-able, France is the place. Everything from the deliciously beautiful food to the amazing wines, there’s something for everyone. The history buff can visit the famed Castle at Versaille during the day and hit some world-renowned clubs at night. Fashion bloggers often find themselves on the Champs-Elysees where you can find so many high-end designers, such as Chanel. If Paris isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the Loire Valley which has a super-rich history and fabulous views.

Italy

It’s no wonder that a place that is home to the Amalfi Coastlands itself on this list. Italy’s beaches are known for their crystal clear water and breathtaking views. Don’t forget about Italy’s historic monuments such as the Colosseum. If you’re looking for some thrills, try hang gliding across Umbria!

5. United Kingdom

As an American, something that’s heard a lot when traveling is “Aren’t you afraid you won’t speak the language?” While that should not steer you away from visiting a foreign country, the United Kingdom is a fantastic starting spot if you’re an inexperienced traveler from the United States.

The United Kingdom includes England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. You can take a ferry or train to almost anywhere within the United Kingdom and it’s only a few hours long. You have England’s royal family and history, Scotland’s beautiful rolling hills, Northern Ireland’s picturesque towns and Wales’ castles and cottages. What’s not to love!

Perhaps Europe is on this list so often due to the accessibility of traveling to another country. Within a couple of hours, you can be in a completely different country via car, train, boat, or plane.

If not knowing the local language is something that stops you from exploring the world, then perhaps you can benefit from short online courses for learning languages and travel phrases. However, don’t let the language barrier stop you from traveling to the destinations you want.
