The Avengers seem to be causing a lot of buzz over the past few months, this ten-year-long story is finally coming to an end.
Perhaps you’re completely new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps you’re a casual fan, having missed some movies along the way. Either way, here’s how to catch yourself up before seeing the heavily anticipated Endgame.
The MCU breaks down the past ten years worth of movies into “phases,” currently, we are in Phase 3.
Phase One
Phase one is obviously the building blocks needed to understand the future Avenger movies. First, you would need to see Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), then you’d next need to watch recent hit – Captain Marvel (2019). This may seem out of order to us but chronologically, this is correct. The story of Carol Danvers takes place in the 1990s, making her next in line after Steve Rogers.
Continuing with Phase 1, Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2 (2010) followed by The Incredible Hulk (2008), Thor (2011) and lastly, The Avengers (2012.)
Phase Two
With this second phase, the creators took the time to build more on existing characters but also added some fan favorites, such as Ant-Man. Here, you would start with Iron Man 3 (2013), continue with Thor: The Dark World (2013). Next you’ll watch Captain America and Bucky Barnes face off in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014.)
After watching them throw down, you’ll travel to a planet far away by watching both Guardians of The Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) which will pave the way for Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Ant-Man (2015).
Phase Three
Phase three introduces many new characters who will most likely be involved with the upcoming phase four. The first character introduced is Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange (2016) doesn’t get too involved with the team at this point but later in this phase, he will become an integral part of the development.
Captain America: Civil War (2016) will be next on your watchlist, which introduces King T’Challa’s Black Panther. Black Panther (2018) becomes the backbone for the next Avengers movie. Black Panther is a must-see in order to fully understand the future movies.
Watch your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in Homecoming (2017) then catch up with Thor in his most comical movie yet, Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
Next, you’ll need to watch Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018) and finally, The Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
You may have seen some, you may have seen all. Don’t be caught out of the loop! Make sure you catch yourself up before heading to the movies for Endgame.
